Avoid Fires this Halloween

Fire Prevention Month is almost to an end, but that does not mean to let up on the safety in your home. Halloween fires have cause 10,100 fires between 2014 to 2016 alone, causing over $102 million dollars in property loss. So how should you protect your family on this spooky day?
3 Quick Tips to Reduce Fires
- Instead of leaving a lit candle unsupervised as you handle all the Halloween festivities, make sure to use a led candle light instead. Or try adding spooky effects like different colored glow sticks.
- Don’t get caught without wearing a flame-retardant costume! From capes, to hats, to a “witch’s broom”, one wrong turn could leave room to something to catching on fire.
- Double think your fall decoration! Scarecrows and bales of hay may add that fall harvest look to your home, but dried material ignite easier and faster than some other décor. Make sure there isn’t any lit candles that could accidentally start an unnecessary fire.
When in doubt, make sure that there is a safe path to exit the home as well as fire extinguishers readily available.
