Hurricane Preparedness Week

Evacuation Route Sign If you live along a coastal area more than likely you are in a Hurricane Evacuation Zone and you'll want to know what your Hurricane Escape Route is.

Every May, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) holds National Hurricane Preparedness Week to inform Americans how they need to be prepare just in case a hurricane strikes their area.

Here are a few tips:

  • Determine your risk. Do you live in a coastal area and may see the brunt of the storm? Or do you live inland where you may see more tornadoes?
  • Develop an Evacuation Plan. Do you live in a Hurricane Evacuation Zone like the Houston area? If you do, you need to plan where you go and how you'd get there.
  • Assemble Disaster Supplies. You'll want to make sure you have enough non-perishables, medicine and other supplies on hand due to disrupted supply routes after a storm.
